The 155.9 km Stage 5 from Nizwa climbed to the brutal Jabal al Akhdhar / Green Mountain summit finish — 5.7 km averaging around 10.4% with gradients over 10% and nowhere to hide. After four tightly controlled days the GC fight finally cracked open on the climb. Adam Yates launched the first serious acceleration roughly 2 km from the top, splintering the favourites' group and putting overnight leader Mauro Schmid in immediate trouble. Scaroni, starting the day four seconds down, positioned himself perfectly behind the moves. When he launched his own attack inside the final kilometre there was no response — he surged clear to win the stage outright. Behind him, team-mate Cristián Rodríguez came home second on the stage to underline XDS Astana's grip on the finale, with Luke Plapp salvaging third after a late acceleration. Schmid, unable to follow the pure climbers, slipped from the lead off the podium.

Scaroni's stage win and time bonus overturned his four-second deficit, handing him the final overall by 24 seconds from team-mate Cristián Rodríguez — an XDS Astana 1-2. Adam Yates took the final podium step at +44s, with the deposed Schmid fourth (also +44s) and Paul Double fifth (+44s). The short, savage Green Mountain finish reshaped the GC exactly as it traditionally does.
