Baptiste Veistroffer won the punchy 191.4 km Stage 2 to the Yitti Hills from a small group, beating Henok Mulubrhan and Thibaud Gruel and moving into the overall lead with the GC contenders still tightly bunched.
Veistroffer's breakthrough at Yitti Hills
The 191.4 km second stage to the Yitti Hills was the first punchy test of the week. A small group went clear on the rolling finale, and Baptiste Veistroffer of Lotto-Intermarché proved strongest, taking the win 17 seconds ahead of Henok Mulubrhan and Thibaud Gruel. It was a breakthrough early-season result for the young Frenchman, who took over the leader's jersey.
Veistroffer takes the overall lead
Veistroffer leads the GC after Stage 2, with Mulubrhan +25s and Gruel +27s. The pure climbers remained bunched behind, all waiting for the Stage 3 uphill and the Green Mountain finale to make their move.
