Scaroni was active from the gun, featuring in the early aggressive group, and later made it into the main breakaway after the chase reshuffled the front. He was caught in a crash on the descent of the Colle di Guaitarola together with Van Eetvelt and Zana, which cost him contact with the leaders. He recovered to finish sixth on the stage at +1:13.

Scaroni was again among XDS Astana's most active riders on Italian roads, surviving the repeated accelerations on the Colla Micheri to finish sixth in the front chase group at 44 seconds. He could not match the decisive trio but backed up teammate Ulissi's fourth place for a strong collective showing by the home team.

Scaroni was again well-placed in a hilly finale, surviving the 17 climbs to make the front group and finish seventh on the same time as the chase. He couldn't follow the decisive Mur d'Allex move but was active in the closing kilometres, adding another top-ten classics result for XDS Astana early in the season.

Scaroni saved his race for the only climb that mattered. Sitting four seconds off Schmid, he shadowed Yates's early acceleration without panicking, then detonated his own move inside the final kilometre on the 10%+ slopes. Nobody could respond, and he soloed to the stage win — the time gain and bonus overturning his deficit to claim the overall in a single stroke. His second stage-race GC in as many seasons and the standout result of his 2026.

Scaroni was the only rider able to match Schmid on the Misfat al Abriyeen uphill, taking second on the same time and slotting into second overall just four seconds back. He didn't chase the leader's jersey here — he banked a deficit small enough to overturn on the far harder Green Mountain finish two days later, which is exactly what he did.

Won the overall. Scaroni rode a patient GC week, finishing second on the Stage 3 uphill (same time as Schmid) to sit four seconds off the lead. He saved everything for Green Mountain on Stage 5: after Yates fractured the group ~2 km from the top, Scaroni stayed glued to the moves and then launched inside the final kilometre, soloing clear to win the stage and overturn his deficit for the GC. It was his second stage-race overall in as many seasons after the 2025 Tour des Alpes-Maritimes, and the headline early-season result of his career-best campaign.

Scaroni was Astana's best finisher, leading the chase group home in fourth at +0:13, just behind the Jayco-UAE trio that settled the win. He could not follow the decisive split on the final climb but was clearly among the strongest of the rest, a tidy season-opening result on a finale that suited his classics-puncheur profile.
