Prologue: Adelaide → Adelaide (ITT)
Tour Down Under 2026
Samuel Watson took the 3.6 km Adelaide-Adelaide opener for INEOS Grenadiers in a thin one-second margin over Ethan Vernon, with Laurence Pithie a second further back. Jay Vine, the eventual GC winner, opened conservatively at +4.
Watson by a second
3.6 km of Adelaide city-centre ITT in late-afternoon heat with blustery wind. Watson set the reference time, Vernon and Pithie split second by a tenth, Vine — the team's protected GC card — opened deliberately at four seconds. A textbook short-prologue gap spread.
The leader's jersey went to Watson for one day; by Stage 2's mountain stage it would be Vine's.
First leader's jersey to INEOS
Watson took the first leader's jersey. Vine sat 4 seconds back — the comfortable conservative open the team wanted.
