Stage 3: Hilly Stage
Vuelta a Andalucia - Ruta del Sol 2026
On the testing uphill drag into Lopera, Milan Fretin (Cofidis) outkicked Paul Penhoët and Christophe Laporte to win the 162 km stage. Iván Romeo stayed in the leader's jersey as Laporte climbed back onto the GC podium.
Fretin wins the punchy uphill sprint; Romeo still leads
Josh Burnett, Samuel Flórez and Giosuè Epis formed the day's early break, with Nicolás Alustiza bridging across to make it four; the quartet built a lead of around four minutes. The peloton timed the catch for the last 10 km, leaving the win to the fast men. The finishing straight in Lopera climbed sharply, setting up an explosive uphill sprint that suited the punchier sprinters. Milan Fretin held his effort to the line to beat Paul Penhoët and Christophe Laporte, with Tom Pidcock (8th) and Alex Aranburu (6th) safely in the front group. Iván Romeo finished in the bunch to keep the overall lead.
Romeo retains; Laporte back to third overall
Romeo stayed in the leader's jersey ahead of Andreas Leknessund (+0:07), with Laporte advancing to third overall at +0:50 thanks to the day's finishing-line time bonus, just ahead of Aranburu (+0:54). The GC top two were unchanged.
