Stage 5: Saint-Chamond → Villars-les-Dombes
Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes 2026
Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) won the bunch sprint at the Parc des Oiseaux in commanding fashion after the day's break was caught; Alex Baudin retained yellow.
Van Aert wins the sprint at the Parc des Oiseaux
A six-rider break — Pepijn Reinderink, Thibault Guernalec, Julen Arriolabengoa, Felix Engelhardt, Hugo Houle and Robbe Dhondt — formed early and saw their lead fluctuate between two and three minutes before being caught with 12 km remaining. The day was always going to end in a sprint, and Wout van Aert delivered it emphatically at Villars-les-Dombes (Parc des Oiseaux), beating Hugo Hofstetter and Phil Bauhaus. Baudin finished in the bunch to retain the yellow jersey.
GC frozen before the mountains; Baudin in yellow
The GC was unchanged ahead of the mountain weekend: Baudin in yellow, Vauquelin and Onley at +0:12, Jorgenson at +0:15, Ayuso and Skjelmose at +0:47, del Toro at +1:16. Everything would be decided on stages 6, 7 and 8.
