FDJ United - SUEZ delivered Demi Vollering to the foot of the final Mur de Huy with the group still together, and she did the rest herself — going early, grinding the front group apart and opening the decisive gap on the steepest ramp. It was her second Flèche Wallonne (after 2023) and the opening leg of an Ardennes double she would complete with a record third Liège-Bastogne-Liège four days later. The win extended an extraordinary spring that also included Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Tour of Flanders.

La Flèche Wallonne (Women)
2026
Demi Vollering (FDJ United - SUEZ) won the 29th La Flèche Wallonne Femmes, attacking from the foot of the final Mur de Huy and opening a gap on the steepest pitch that defending champion Puck Pieterse (Fenix - Premier Tech) could not quite close, despite a furious late charge that brought her onto Vollering's wheel at the line. It was Vollering's second Flèche Wallonne title (after 2023) and the first leg of an Ardennes double she completed four days later at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Amstel Gold Race winner Paula Blasi (UAE Team ADQ) took third at three seconds, ahead of Kasia Niewiadoma and Anna van der Breggen.
Vollering times the Mur de Huy to perfection for her second Flèche
OPENING148.2 km finishing atop the Mur de Huy after the climb's familiar finishing circuit. The early move came from Lotte Claes and Malou Eissen ahead of the Côte de Courrière. A nine-rider chase including Évita Muzic, Daniela Hézinová, Irati Aranguren, Viktória Chladoňová, Ricarda Bauernfeind, Mikayla Harvey, Erica Magnaldi, Heidi Franz and India Grangier spent dozens of kilometres in pursuit and only bridged across at roughly the halfway point.
UNFOLDSThe break's advantage evaporated and the peloton drew level again before entering the finishing circuit. On the first ascent of the Mur de Huy, Axelle Dubau-Prévot pressed on alone at the front; Katrine Aalerud later joined her, and the pair stretched their lead out to about a minute before being reeled in on the Côte de Cherave, the penultimate climb of the day.
DECIDEDA front group of around twenty riders hit the Mur de Huy for the final time with the race still together. Demi Vollering moved to the front early — far from the usual late punch the wall normally produces — and steadily wound up the pace, thinning the group out behind her. On the steepest section she cracked it open, opening a ten-metre gap that proved decisive.
FINALEAs the gradient eased over the final few hundred metres Vollering already looked the winner, but Puck Pieterse launched a ferocious late surge up the inside and clawed back almost all of the gap, ending the day on Vollering's wheel — same time, but beaten. Paula Blasi, fresh from winning Amstel Gold Race, came home third at three seconds, with Kasia Niewiadoma (+0:06) and Anna van der Breggen (+0:11) completing the top five.

The break is neutralisedThe Dubau-Prévot / Aalerud move was reeled in on the Côte de Cherave, the penultimate climb, leaving a front group of around twenty to contest the Mur de Huy finale.

Vollering's long-range Mur attackVollering moved to the front from the foot of the final Mur de Huy and accelerated early; on the steepest pitch around 500 m out she opened a ten-metre gap. Pieterse mounted a late charge that brought her back onto the wheel but not past — Vollering held on for her second Flèche Wallonne.
Who pressed, who missed
Defending champion Puck Pieterse was the only rider with the legs to respond to Vollering's long-range move, producing a storming late surge up the inside of the Mur that brought her right onto the winner's wheel at the line — same time, but second. A near miss in the title defence and confirmation that the mountain-bike convert is now a genuine Ardennes force on the road.
Days after winning Amstel Gold Race, Paula Blasi rounded out the podium at three seconds, confirming UAE Team ADQ as one of the in-form squads of the Ardennes. The Spaniard's blend of punch and consistency made her the best of the chasers behind the two leaders on the Mur.
Kasia Niewiadoma was in the mix on the final Mur de Huy and crossed the line fourth at six seconds, marking the decisive moves and salvaging a strong placing on a finish that rarely suits her better than the steeper, longer Ardennes climbs. A solid building block ahead of Liège.
Anna van der Breggen, a multiple former Flèche Wallonne winner, was again competitive on the Mur de Huy and took fifth at eleven seconds for SD Worx-Protime. A reminder of her enduring climbing punch, if no longer quite enough to win the wall outright against an in-form Vollering.
Magdeleine Vallieres was EF Education-Oatly's standout, climbing to sixth on the Mur at fourteen seconds. A high-quality Ardennes ride from the Canadian, who backed it up days later with eighth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot was Visma | Lease a Bike's best on the day, seventh at twenty-eight seconds on the Mur de Huy. A respectable Ardennes outing for the road-and-MTB all-rounder, just outside the riders fighting for the podium on the steepest section.
Lidl - Trek placed two riders in the top ten on the Mur — Niamh Fisher-Black eighth at thirty-four seconds and the young Canadian Isabella Holmgren ninth at forty. No podium, but strong collective depth from a squad that animated the harder Ardennes finishes.
How each story played out
Vollering won the Mur de Huy the hard way. Rather than wait for the traditional late kick, she moved to the front from the foot of the final climb and steadily wound up the pace, shredding the front group of around twenty. On the steepest pitch she opened a ten-metre gap and, although Pieterse's late charge brought the defending champion back onto her wheel, Vollering held on for victory — same time but never headed. It was her second Flèche Wallonne after 2023 and the first half of an Ardennes double sealed four days later with a record third Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

- 0.5 kmAccelerated on the steepest section to open a decisive ten-metre gap
The defending champion was the only rider able to respond to Vollering's long-range move, and she nearly pulled off a remarkable save. Caught out by the early acceleration, Pieterse launched a powerful surge up the inside in the final few hundred metres and clawed back almost all of the gap, ending the day on Vollering's wheel — same time, but second. A near-defence that confirmed her standing among the very best on the Mur.

Coming off her Amstel Gold Race win, Blasi confirmed her Ardennes form by taking third on the Mur de Huy at three seconds — the best of the chasers behind the two leaders. The result capped a standout week and underlined UAE Team ADQ's strength across the hilly classics.
Niewiadoma was in the front group on the final Mur and finished fourth at six seconds, marking the key moves on a finish that suits the explosive puncheurs better than her. A consistent ride that set her up for the longer, more selective Liège-Bastogne-Liège to come.
A serial former winner of the race, Van der Breggen was again among the strongest on the Mur de Huy, taking fifth at eleven seconds. Her punch on the wall remains formidable even if it was no longer enough to deny an in-form Vollering.
Vallieres climbed to sixth on the Mur at fourteen seconds, EF Education-Oatly's best finisher and a high-class Ardennes result for the Canadian. She backed it up days later with eighth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, marking a strong Ardennes campaign.
Ferrand-Prévot was Visma | Lease a Bike's leader on the day and finished seventh at twenty-eight seconds, in the group fighting just behind the podium contenders on the Mur de Huy. A solid showing on a steep finish that is not her natural specialism.
Fisher-Black led Lidl - Trek home with eighth on the Mur de Huy at thirty-four seconds, one of two of the team's riders inside the top ten. A consistent Ardennes ride from the New Zealander.
Muzic was in the long chase group that pursued the early Claes/Eissen move for dozens of kilometres before bridging at the halfway point — aggressive, forward riding for FDJ that helped shape the front of the race ahead of Vollering's winning move on the Mur.

Vollering opens the Ardennes double on the Mur
Flèche Wallonne was the first half of an Ardennes double for Vollering, who followed it with a record third Liège-Bastogne-Liège four days later — part of a spring that also delivered Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Tour of Flanders. The manner of the win, an unusually early and sustained effort from the foot of the Mur de Huy rather than the customary late punch, showed a rider confident enough to dictate terms on cycling's most ritualised uphill finish. For Pieterse, the same-time second was a near-defence that confirmed her arrival as a top-tier Ardennes rider, while Blasi's third backed up her Amstel Gold Race triumph days earlier.
