UAE Team Emirates rode a textbook control race for their finish-line specialist. With the Côte de Cadoudal suiting Cosnefroy perfectly, the team set a hard, even pace on the final ascents to discourage long-range attacks and keep their leader sheltered near the front, then trusted his kick on the uphill sprint. Cosnefroy delivered with a perfectly timed effort for his fourth career win at the Grand Prix du Morbihan — a prestige one-day result for the French squad on home roads.

GP du Morbihan
2026
Benoît Cosnefroy (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) won the 36th Grand Prix du Morbihan on the uphill drag of the Côte de Cadoudal in Plumelec, outkicking a reduced front group for his fourth victory in the race. Decathlon CMA CGM's young hill specialist Noa Isidore took second and team-mate Paul Lapeira third, both on the same time, as the Brittany 1.Pro one-dayer once again came down to a punchy finish on its signature climb.
Cosnefroy masters his Cadoudal finish again to win the Morbihan
OPENINGThe 36th Grand Prix du Morbihan ran 190 km from Plumelec to Plumelec across the rolling Breton interior, the early part of a Brittany week of one-dayers that builds toward the Tro-Bro Léon and the bigger French spring races. As is traditional on this parcours, an early break went up the road on the approach to the first passages of the Côte de Cadoudal, the short, sharp climb that the finishing circuit laps repeatedly. With clear favourites in the field — most obviously serial Plumelec winner Benoît Cosnefroy — the move was kept on a short leash by the bigger squads.
UNFOLDSOn the hilly local laps around Plumelec the repeated ascent of Cadoudal steadily wore down the escapees' advantage. UAE Team Emirates and Decathlon CMA CGM took charge of the chase, with Groupama - FDJ United also contributing to the tempo on the climbs, and the breakaway was reeled in before the final circuits. From there a succession of counter-attacks tried to go clear over the top of Cadoudal, but with two of the strongest teams committed to a finish, no late move was allowed a decisive gap.
DECIDEDThe race was always pointing toward the uphill sprint on the Côte de Cadoudal, and the final two ascents thinned the lead group to roughly 30 riders. UAE switched fully into control mode to deliver Cosnefroy, while Decathlon CMA CGM rode aggressively to play their numbers — Noa Isidore and Paul Lapeira both up front — testing the group on the penultimate climb to try to soften the favourite and create a tactical edge for the finale.
FINALEOn the final ramp into Plumelec the sprint opened up early, but Cosnefroy timed his effort to perfection, coming off the wheels in the last hundred metres to take the uphill dash. Isidore held on for second and Lapeira completed the Decathlon CMA CGM near-sweep in third, both credited with the same time as the winner, with Thibaud Gruel (Groupama - FDJ United) and Clément Venturini rounding out the top five — all in the same front group on Cosnefroy's 4h 35m 17s. It was Cosnefroy's fourth victory at the Grand Prix du Morbihan.
Where the race tilted
-
The early break is reeled back on the Cadoudal lapsAn early breakaway, established on the run toward the first passages of the Côte de Cadoudal, was kept under control by UAE Team Emirates and Decathlon CMA CGM and steadily pulled back as the race hit the repeated ascents of the finishing circuit.
-
Decathlon tests the group with its numbersHolding cards in both Isidore and Lapeira, Decathlon CMA CGM attacked on the penultimate climb of Cadoudal to soften the favourites and force UAE and Groupama - FDJ to respond, but no rider could get a decisive gap on the punchy ascent.
-
Cosnefroy nails the uphill sprintOn the closing uphill drag the sprint went early, but Cosnefroy judged his effort perfectly, accelerating off the wheels in the last hundred metres to win on the Cadoudal finish ahead of Isidore and Lapeira.
Who pressed, who missed
Decathlon CMA CGM were the most aggressive team of the day and were rewarded with two podium places, but not the victory. Backing the numbers of young hill specialist Noa Isidore and classics rider Paul Lapeira, they tested the front group on the penultimate Cadoudal ascent and led the sprint out early on the final ramp, hoping to outmanoeuvre Cosnefroy. Isidore took second and Lapeira third on the same time — a strong collective showing on the climb, but Cosnefroy's finishing speed denied them the win.
Lacking an obvious favourite for the uphill finish, Groupama - FDJ United tried to animate the race, contributing to the chase and the tempo over the top of Cadoudal to avoid a controlled sprint. They could not break the grip of UAE and Decathlon, but Thibaud Gruel was best of the rest, taking fourth from the front group on the same time as the winner — a solid return for the young hill specialist.
Without a podium card for the Cadoudal finish, Visma | Lease a Bike still placed Axel Zingle in the front group of around 30 that contested the uphill sprint. The French classics rider took sixth on the same time as Cosnefroy — a respectable result on a finish that didn't suit a designated leader, but well short of the win on a day controlled by UAE and Decathlon.
Cosnefroy reaffirms his mastery of Plumelec
The Grand Prix du Morbihan once again came down to the uphill sprint on the Côte de Cadoudal, and once again it favoured Benoît Cosnefroy, who added a fourth win to his palmarès on a finish that fits him perfectly. For Decathlon CMA CGM, two podium places confirmed the depth of their punchy-classics group — particularly the rise of 21-year-old Noa Isidore — even as the win slipped away in the final metres. The result set the tone for the rest of the Brittany week of one-dayers.
