A double podium for Fenix-Premier Tech on a brutal, icy day. Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado bounced back from an early crash to read the conditions best of all, pouncing on Lucinda Brand's late mistake to solo to a back-to-back Zonhoven victory. Teammate Puck Pieterse — the project's tracked rider here — animated the early race from the front before two falls on the slick course relegated her to a hard-fought third. Two of the three podium steps for the squad.

UCI Cyclocross World Cup Zonhoven - Women Elite
2026
In the snow and ice of Zonhoven, Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Fenix-Premier Tech) recovered from an early crash to take advantage of a final-lap mistake by overall leader Lucinda Brand and solo to victory — making her a back-to-back winner on the famously technical sand course. Brand (Baloise Verzekeringen-Het Poetsbureau Lions), who had led much of the race, veered into the fencing and lost the front, eventually finishing second at +0:23. Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Premier Tech), the project's tracked rider here, led early but fell on lap five and came home third at +0:49 to complete an all-Dutch podium.
Alvarado capitalises on Brand's late slip to win again in the Zonhoven ice
OPENINGZonhoven's technical, sandy circuit was raced in snow and ice, the De Kuil sand pit frozen and the off-camber lines treacherous. Puck Pieterse hit the front early and looked the strongest, while Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado's day began badly with an early crash that dropped her out of the lead group.
UNFOLDSAlvarado picked herself up and came from behind as the icy course punished her rivals one by one. Pieterse lost ground after a mistake and could no longer fight for the win, and the lead settled on overall World Cup leader Lucinda Brand, who pushed hard to go clear. Alvarado was the next-strongest rider, working her way back toward the front while Brand defended a slender advantage.
DECIDEDThe race turned on lap five. Brand's eagerness to go clear proved her undoing — she lost control and veered into the fencing, losing precious time and dropping out of the lead, and was forced to pit for a bike change. That handed first place to Alvarado, who hit the front and led for most of the closing two laps. Pieterse fell again on the same lap, locking in her third place.
FINALEAlvarado only had to avoid disaster over the final half-lap and duly managed it, soloing to victory in 51:33. Brand recovered to take second at +0:23 and Pieterse held third at +0:49, completing an all-Dutch podium. The win made Alvarado a back-to-back winner at Zonhoven.

Who pressed, who missed
So nearly the winning team. Overall World Cup leader Lucinda Brand led much of the race and looked set to go clear, but her eagerness cost her — she veered into the fencing on lap five, lost the front and had to take a bike change, ceding the win to Alvarado before recovering to second at +0:23. Shirin van Anrooij added fifth. A strong day undone by a single moment on the ice.
Amandine Fouquenet was the best of the non-Dutch riders, riding steadily through the carnage to fourth at +1:27, with Leonie Bentveld backing her up in seventh. A solid team result on a day defined by crashes among the favourites.
How each story played out
The project's tracked rider in this CX-specialist field, Pieterse was the early aggressor, hitting the front and looking the strongest in the opening laps of the frozen Zonhoven course. But the ice undid her: a first mistake cost her contact with the leaders, and a second fall on lap five — when she had already lost too much ground to fight for the win — sealed her fate. She held on for third at +0:49 to round out an all-Dutch podium, a respectable winter result for a rider whose main targets lie on the road and mountain bike.

A win forged out of adversity. Alvarado crashed early and dropped out of the lead group, but recovered to read the icy conditions better than anyone, working her way back to the front. Crashes, abandons, controversy
Back-to-back at Zonhoven, decided by the ice
Round nine of the 2025–2026 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup was a survival exercise on snow and ice, and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado survived best — crashing early, recovering, and pouncing the moment overall leader Lucinda Brand slid into the fencing on the final two laps. The result made Alvarado a back-to-back Zonhoven winner and a double podium for Fenix-Premier Tech alongside Puck Pieterse's third. Brand kept the overall World Cup lead despite the slip, taking second, with Pieterse rounding out an all-Dutch top three.
