A near-perfect collective display. SD Worx-Protime were the most active team all day — Femke Markus got into the day's first move, crashed and chased back, then attacked again from the reduced front group with 26 km to go to ride clear solo. With the win secured, her teammates sat on and disrupted the chase, and when the bunch arrived around a minute and a half down, Marta Lach and Femke Gerritse sprinted to second and third for a clean 1-2-3. For Markus it was a rare and well-earned victory — her second as a professional and first in four years.

Antwerp Port Epic Ladies
2026
Femke Markus (Team SD Worx-Protime) soloed to victory in the fourth edition of the Antwerp Port Epic Ladies, a gravel-and-cobble one-day race around Antwerp, leading an SD Worx-Protime podium sweep. Active all day, Markus first got into an early two-up move with Anneke Dijkstra, crashed but rejoined, and then launched a decisive solo from a reduced front group with 26 km to go. Aided by her teammates blocking behind, she was never seen again, taking her second professional win — her first since Leiedal Koerse four years earlier. Around 1m23s later, teammates Marta Lach and Femke Gerritse sprinted out of the chase for second and third to complete the 1-2-3.
Markus times a long-range solo to win an SD Worx-Protime clean sweep on the Antwerp gravel
OPENINGThe fourth edition of the Antwerp Port Epic Ladies ran out-and-back from Antwerp over a gravel-heavy parcours featuring roughly forty unpaved sectors, the women's curtain-raiser the day before the men's race on the Whit weekend that turns the province of Antwerp into a hub of international women's racing. There was no early breakaway in the opening phase; only after more than an hour of racing did a two-rider move finally get clear, Anneke Dijkstra (VolkerWessels) and Femke Markus (Team SD Worx-Protime) taking the initiative. Markus then crashed, but was able to continue and, after a short chase, rejoined Dijkstra at the front.
UNFOLDSAs the leading duo pressed on, the peloton behind thinned rapidly on the unpaved sectors. At around halfway the first part of the bunch — some 35 riders — bridged across to Dijkstra and Markus, and the catch immediately triggered fresh attacks, including a dig from Marie Schreiber. SD Worx-Protime were the most active team throughout; getting clear was difficult, but the relentless high tempo steadily distanced more riders until only around twenty remained at the front.
DECIDEDFrom that select group of roughly twenty, Markus attacked again with 26 km to go, this time going alone. She opened a gap immediately and kept extending it, helped considerably by her SD Worx-Protime teammates sitting on and disrupting the chase behind. The move was decisive: Markus would not be brought back.
FINALEMarkus rode clear all the way to the line in Antwerp to take her second professional victory, her first since winning Leiedal Koerse four years earlier. Around 1m23s later, the reduced chase group arrived, and SD Worx-Protime made it a clean sweep as Marta Lach won the sprint for second ahead of teammate Femke Gerritse in third. Letizia Borghesi (AG Insurance-Soudal) and Lily Williams (Human Powered Health) led the rest of that group home for fourth and fifth at the same time.
Where the race tilted
-
Late-forming two-up moveNo early break formed; only after more than an hour of racing did Anneke Dijkstra (VolkerWessels) and Femke Markus (SD Worx-Protime) get clear. Markus crashed shortly after but remounted and chased back to Dijkstra at the front.
-
Front group of ~35 catches the leadersOn the unpaved sectors the peloton split heavily; at around halfway the leading first group of roughly 35 riders bridged to the two leaders, prompting immediate counter-attacks including one from Marie Schreiber.
-
High tempo cuts the front group to ~20SD Worx-Protime drove a relentless pace that made escaping difficult but steadily distanced riders, reducing the front group to around twenty contenders heading into the finale.
-
Markus attacks solo — the winning moveMarkus launched again from the select front group, this time going alone. She opened an immediate gap and extended it, with her SD Worx-Protime teammates disrupting the chase behind. She was never brought back.
-
SD Worx-Protime complete the 1-2-3Markus soloed home for the win; about 1m23s later Marta Lach won the chase-group sprint for second ahead of teammate Femke Gerritse for third, sealing an SD Worx-Protime podium sweep.
Who pressed, who missed
Present at the front through the selective gravel sectors, AG Insurance-Soudal could not match SD Worx-Protime's numbers in the finale. Letizia Borghesi was the best of the chasers, leading the reduced group home for fourth at 1m23s — the top non-SD Worx finisher, but unable to prevent the podium sweep.
The Continental-level VolkerWessels squad animated the race early, Anneke Dijkstra forming the day's first breakaway alongside Markus before the front group reeled them in. Lonneke Uneken carried the team's finish, rounding out the top ten in tenth from the chase group — a solid result against WorldTour opposition.
Crashes, abandons, controversy
A breakthrough win for Markus and a statement of depth from SD Worx-Protime
The Antwerp Port Epic Ladies rewarded the most committed team on the day. Femke Markus converted an aggressive, all-day ride — and a recovery from an early crash — into a long-range solo win, claiming only her second professional victory and her first since Leiedal Koerse four years earlier. The result also underlined SD Worx-Protime's strength in numbers on the gravel: with Markus up the road, Lach and Gerritse controlled and then sprinted out the minor podium places to complete a 1-2-3. Markus succeeded 2025 winner Susanne Andersen on a roll of honour that also includes Lara Gillespie (2024) and Marthe Truyen (2023).
