Stage 2
Monaco → Manosque
Stage 2 leaves Monaco on the first full road stage of the 2026 Vuelta, heading 215km west into Provence to finish in Manosque. The route crosses the Alpes-Maritimes hinterland with a series of mid-stage hills before opening up to longer rolling terrain in the run-in. The Manosque finish is not a true sprint setup — punchier finishers and breakaway specialists are equally viable.

What to follow
- Longest stage of the first week — 215km will stretch legs after the Monaco ITT opening.
- Provençal hills mid-stage are ideal breakaway launch points before the rolling finale.
- Hot, dry conditions traditional for early-September French Riviera transition stages.
When to tune in
Final 30km has small kickers that can split the bunch — watch for puncheur attacks rather than a pure sprint finish.
