Strade Bianche
Strade Bianche (men's) is a 215km one-day classic through the white gravel roads (strade bianche) of Tuscany. Starting from Siena, the men's course features 11 gravel sectors totaling over 60km of unpaved roads across the rolling Crete Senesi hills before the iconic uphill finish through Siena's medieval streets to Piazza del Campo. The race character demands gravel handling, sustained climbing, and tactical patience over the 5+ hours of racing.

Strade Bianche
The decisive pavé
Who to watch
Narratives to watch
- Unofficial first Monument: the modern Strade has earned Monument-equivalent prestige since its 2007 debut.
- Tuscan gravel selectivity: 60+ km of gravel rewards bold attacks on sectors 6-10 in the final 80km.
- Piazza del Campo finish: the medieval shell-shaped square is among cycling's most spectacular finish-lines.
- Weather wildcard: rain turns gravel into mud, makes descents treacherous, and rewards opportunistic late attacks.
Form book & lore
Strade Bianche was inaugurated in 2007 as Eroica Pro and renamed Strade Bianche in 2008. It rapidly became one of the most prestigious one-day races on the men's calendar despite being only WT category — many riders and fans treat it as the unofficial first Monument of the season. The race showcases the unique white clay gravel roads of the Crete Senesi region of Tuscany and shares the same iconic Piazza del Campo finish with the women's event.
When to tune in
Decisive moves come on Sector 6 (Monte Sante Marie, 11.5km) onward — anyone hoping to win typically attacks in the final 80km. The race often comes down to a small group or solo attack on Le Tolfe before the Via Santa Caterina climb. Disable autoplay and avoid sidebar recommendations.
