Omloop Nieuwsblad Women
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Women is the first major cobbled classic of the European season, traditionally marking the start of 'Opening Weekend' alongside the men's race and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. The 130km route from Ghent to Ninove takes riders through the heart of the Flemish Ardennes, tackling the same iconic bergs (hellingen) and cobbled sectors that define the Tour of Flanders. The decisive Muur van Geraardsbergen and Bosberg climbs come inside the final 15km.

Form book & lore
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad has traditionally marked the opening of the Spring Classics since 1945. Named after the Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the race takes place in the heart of cycling country, on many of the same cobbles and bergs used in the Tour of Flanders. The women's edition has become a major WorldTour event, often producing surprise winners and dramatic racing.
When to tune in
The Muur van Geraardsbergen is where the race explodes - the steep cobbles shed pure sprinters and force attackers to play their cards. The Bosberg 9km from the finish is the last chance to escape. After the Bosberg, a 9km run-in to Ninove often comes down to a reduced group sprint. Cold conditions and tired legs from winter training can produce unexpected results.
