What the stage looks like
Stage 9 closes the first GC-stressful block with a 184km mountain stage from Cervia to a summit finish at Corno alle Scale in the Apennines (Bologna province). The final climb is the hardest of the day and the second summit finish of the race after Blockhaus on stage 7.
Where the stage is decided
What to follow
- Second summit finish in three days — the front of GC may dramatically reshape this week.
- Corno alle Scale rises out of the Bologna foothills; consistent gradients rather than the Blockhaus brutality.
- Last GC chance before the rest day — teams will go all-in rather than save for after.
When to tune in
Saturday before rest day = full-gas racing. Watch for GC leaders going on the offensive rather than defending; the rest day buys recovery.
